Project Description: Barn Conversion Phase 1 and 2

An old farm complex in Northamptonshire came up for development and the client purchased off plan what was once a stone built grain store, this was to be restored and converted into a new home, the garden was once a crew yard it was very compacted with shallow soil over Ironstone outcrops. The entire garden had to be worked to depth to pull loose rock and break up the pan, 300mm of quality graded topsoil was spread across the lawns and borders whilst a 50mm thick layer was dug into the borders before planting.

The client's design brief required and English Country Style Garden, with Pleached Trees, clumps of Silver Birch trees, a simple water feature, two seating areas one of which was to be secluded, a covered outdoor seating area, a large lawn, a swing and an island bed to walk around and lots of scented plants, espalier fruit trees, clipped forms, box and Lavender hedges, climbers and Roses. Grading, topsoiling, hard landscaping and planting was carried out by the developer's own landscape team.

In phase 1 all of the hard landscaping was carried out by the builder in accordance with the garden design and included Fencing, paths patios, steps, driveway stone walls and entrance gates. Phase 2 included trellis screens, Pergola, water feature, trellises, planting, swing and Breeze House.

Turn Your Dream Into A Reality

Gardens are never finished they change with the seasons and plants continue to grow and change. A garden design will provide you with the ultimate concept to work towards, however not all gardens can be afforded in one go, so to complete the final garden may take several years, this will be dependent on your budget and time frame.

It is, however, possible to have a garden designed so that it can be built by the contractor in phases. In this way, a section can be completed and enjoyed, whilst the next phase is completed sometime in the near future.
